Shadow the DarkAmber

Tale of the Shadow

Lord Shadow, know as the DarkAmber, was not always the raving madman you see today. No, once he was so much more. First Diciple od an evil god, proud warrior, father and protector. And here is written his story.

Shadow DarkAmber, to hear the name now invokes laughter and riddicule, the idea that this madman was once anything but crazy crosses very few minds, but once, his name sent violent shudders down the backs of the world. Like most great tales, this one starts on a day, like any other....
It was long ago, Shadow is much older than he first seems, over three thousand years older. He was only 15 when Shalmak found him.
"Stop!" the merchant shouted. "Thief!"
The boys breath came out in sharp gasps as he ran through the maze of streets. The guards was close behind, to close her knew. As he rounded a corner he knew well to go down an alley he had used any number of times, he skitted to a stop and gapped at the wall that now stood in his way. He spun around to run back out of the dead end only to find there was now a wall there aswell.
"They call you the Shadow." hissed a voice. "I see why, you are a hard one to catch up with."
The boy gasped and spun around to face the voice. There, before him stood an imposing man with green, scaled skin and serpant yellow eyes. At his side stood a tall, lovely woman with shimmering blue skin, blood red hair and large, leather wings. Her pale eyes studied Shadow like a side of beef at the market, making him very uncomfortable under her stare.
"Shadow," the man said. "We have come for you."
"What?" the boy asked, clearly frightened of the two before him. "Who are you?"
The woman, if she could be called that, smiled, displaying sharp elongated eyeteeth. She motioned to the snake-man, "This is M'Lord Shalmak the Serpant God, I am know as the Demoness of Devane."
The boy stared in disbelief. "I must be dreaming, what would the Dark God and his consort what with me? A mere mortal boy?"
"You my boy are not merely anything, and certainly not mortal." Shalmak laughed. "You have always been different have you not. Well for that reason I have choosen you to be my First Diciple."
Shadow frowned. "And what makes you think I'd do that?"
"Because," Devane said. "If you don't, I'll reopen that passage and make sure the guard finds you here. You know what they do to thieves don't you? I'm told death would be a better choice."
Shadow glared but knew he would be better off with these two than he would the guard. "Alright."
Shalmak smile evilly and Devane opened the portal for them. Together they walked thru and started a millennium of evil.
Devane taught Shadow all the magic he needed to destroy and enslave the world for over a thousand years. Davane and Shalmak had a daughter named Kaylin, and she would be the beginning of the end for their reign of darkness. You see, Shadow, will all his black heart fell in love with the beautiful Kaylin.
Kaylin, it turned out, wasn't a very loyal daughter.
"Shadow." she said one day. "It's time for us to be free my love."
Shadow looked up from his scroll with questioning eyes. "What do you mean?"
She smiled. "Don't play the fool with me Shadow, I'm not Devane, I know you better than that. I mean of them, Shalmak and Devane. We must be free of them."
"Don't Kay." he shook his head. "They won't let us leave, you know that."
"Then we will make them"
He frowned.
"The Death Stone, we can use it."
Shadow looked to the stone that was mounted in silver upon the alter. "Destiny Stone, it was called that long before Devane renamed it."
Kaylin shrugged. "It matters not what you wish to call it."
Shadow lept to his feet as the stones of the temple shook all around them.
A flash of green fire signaled the arrival of Devane. When it sudsided Shalmak and Devane stood before the stone.
"Harlot!" Shalmak spat at Kaylin. "Treacherous wench!"
Kaylin sneared. "Where do you think I learned it, father."
Shalmak cursed her and sent a spear hurtling across the room.
Shadow froze in horror as the spear drove its way right through his wives shoulder and pinned her to the wall.
"No!" screamed Devane. "The twins, Shalmak, you'll kill them!"
"Twins?" Shadow shot a look to Devane. "What twins?"
"It won't matter to you, very little matters to a dead man." Shalmak hissed as he threw yet another spear.
Shadow gasped and translocated himself as the spear buried itself into the wall. Shalmak threw another as soon as the first had left his hand. This time Shadow knocked it out of the air. He then created his own weapon, but unlike Shalmak, he went with small and deadly, a small sliver of mage silver. He threw it and backed it up with black flame. It moved so fast the shock didn't have time to register on Shalmaks face as he fell to the floor dead.
Devane screeched, deafening Shadow for a moment.
"Shadow!" Kaylin cried. "The stone! Together was can trap her."
Shadow nodded and started chanting the words to invoke the stones power. The Destiny Stone came to life with a flash of golden light and began to create a vortex.
Devane cursed Shadow as she was pulled in, but she refused to go alone. She grabbed he daughters ankle. Kaylin, now free of Shalmaks spear which had disappeared after his death, was pulled in behind her demonic mother. As soon as she was the stone fell silent once more.
"No!" he cried falling to his knees. "No." he said again, no more than a whisper.
Then another flash of light came from the stone. Shadow looked up to see a woman emerge.
"Kaylin...." he said. But no, this woman was an angel.
She walked to his side, a sad look on her face. "I am sorry, but it must be this way. You will never see her again. The twins however are another story. Together they will be to powerful for me to hold. So I will ask a task of you. Time passes differently inside the stone, they will be born in two thousand of your years. I will bring them to this world at that time."
Shadow stared at her with a blank face.
"I will not leave them to be raised be Davane. Will you accept? Will you raise your daughters and change their destiny. You must understand child, they are the pure spirits of Death and Destruction, Lilith and Sirius. They will become the worldly embodiment of that if not stopped. Will you accept my task and save the people that you have for so long destroyed?"
Shadow nodded weakly.
"So be it!" thundered the woman and she was gone.
It is said that Nemesis drove Shadow insane, the truth of it is he was gone the second Kaylin was pulled into the Destiny Stone. All that kept Shadow sane for the next two thousand years was a sense of direction, or duty. Once that duty was done, he was free.
